Term 4 - Spring / Summer series, at the Cooroy permaculture gardens, starting Monday October 7th!

Clay Club for Kids - Offering gently guided, child-centric, learning opportunities for children and their families, to engage with ceramics.

Facilitated by, Zephyr Marama, an experienced ceramics facilitator and multi media artist. Her practice includes ceramics, textile design, natural dyeing, botanical printing, traditional crafts and slow process herbalism.

At Clay club for kids, we offer ceramics programs for children and adults, held at the Cooroy permaculture gardens and pavilion. Under the large pavilion roof, we will enjoy the immersive medium of clay, as well as explore a variety of creative mediums and the beautiful permaculture gardens together.

Term 4 - at Clay Club for Kids

Block 1 -introduction to ceramic sculpture. Creating hand built forms in clay, exploring foundational construction techniques. This block comprises of 4 weeks and includes all materials. Later in the term we will return to our creations, once they are fired and complete glazing of our works, preparing pieces for their second firing.

Block 2 - introduction to natural dyeing; extracting colour from plants, using a variety of processes. Exploration of mordants, binders and decorative applications, post modification colour shifts. We will look at traditional dye plants and explore creating a dye plant garden, as we work together to create a catalogue of potential colour sources, already growing in the garden. During this block we will create natural fibre textile items, coloured with all natural dyes, exploring decorative techniques, like ‘botanical printing’. . Future programs will also process any seasonal dye plant resources harvested from the garden, pressing and drying for future use, creating our own paints and dyes. This block comprises of 4 weeks. All materials included.

Block 3 - returning to ceramics, we will complete glazing of our block 1 work and undertake final firings. This block comprises of 2 weeks, week 9 of the term is allocated for glazing, week 10 will be enjoyed as an end of term celebration, with shared morning tea and social gathering and provides opportunity to collect any completed student work. All materials included.

This program is developed for children, seeking a hands on/practical opportunity to connect through creative arts and nature.

  • Homeschool session - Monday 9.30 - 12.30pm - each term is 10 weeks. Ages 7yrs and up. All materials included.

$43 per session.

  • After school session - Tuesday 3.45 - 5.45pm - each term is 10 weeks.
    Ages 7yrs and up. All materials included.

Reservation ticket - purchasing a reservation ticket will hold your child’s place in the program and allow you to pay the full ticket balance at the beginning of term 4. Term balance must be paid at program commencement.

Ticket refunds available, up to 1 week prior to program start date. Reservation is refundable up to 1 week prior to program commencement. No refunds available once program commences, or within 1 week of start of program.
